Liquor sales on the rise Rs 2,250cr income in six months

Hyderabad, Velugu: The income from liquor sales is on the rise with the Government getting more and more income on it.In comparison with the revenue it got during the last financial year the income from the sale of liquor is higher by Rs. 2,250cr. During the last six months starting from April this year Rs.14,320cr worth liquor has been sold. As the sales of beer have also been increased after a long gap it led to a hike in income to the Government. Abkari is one of the key departments from which Government gets more income and it is estimated that there are along with 2,216 liquor hundreds of Bars, Pubs and Clubs are being run. The liquor is being supplied to them from liquor depots in the districts. It is also learnt that even after drastic reduction in Corona cases the cess imposed during the period has not yet been lifted. During the six months period from April to September this year 1.75cr liquor cases, 1.53 cr Beer cases had been sold amount to Rs.14,320 cr worth of liquor sales. The income from the liquor sales during the same period last year was Rs.11,800cr and it increased to Rs.2,520cr this time. It is known that liquor shops were closed in April last year and after their opening in May liquor sales registered a massive increase. And in the same month in the name of Corona cess rates were increased by 20percent. The State government has been continuing the cess while other states, which also imposed the cess, have removed it. It is said that Rangareddy, Nalgonda, Hyderabad districts the sale of liquor is the highest with Rangareddy district stood first with Rs.3,247cr worth liquor sales while Nalgonda and Hyderabad districts stood second and third with Rs.1599cr and Rs.1483cr worth liquor sales respectively. Though there was highest consumption of Beers in Telangana their sales were affected with the hike of price from Rs.90 to Rs.150. And that resulted in people turning to liquor to save money. Taking the fact into account the Government reduced the Beer price by Rs.10 and now its sales are on the rise. A massive of Beer sales has registered. In the coming festival season it is expected that the income to the Government will be more on the sale of liquor.
