బ్లింకిట్ పేరెంట్ కంపనీ ఎటర్నల్ వ్యవస్థాపకుడు దీపేందర్ గోయల్ తీసుకున్న ఒక నిర్ణయం ప్రస్తుతం తీవ్ర చర్చనీయాంశమవుతోంది. ఇప్పటివరకు ఎమర్జెన్సీ సమయాల్లోనే కాకుండా అన్ని రకాల వైద్య సేవలకూ అంబులెన్స్‌లను ఉచితంగా అందిస్తామని చెప్పిన సంస్థ, తాజాగా నాన్-ఎమర్జెన్సీ కేసులకు రూ.2వేల 500 వసూలు చేయనున్నట్లు ప్రకటించింది. దీంతో అసలు బ్లింకిట్ అంబులెన్స్ సేవల వెనుక వ్యాపార ఉద్దేశం ఉందా అనే అనుమానాలు ప్రజల్లో వ్యక్తమవుతున్నాయి.
ఈ విమర్శలపై స్పందించిన దీపేందర్ గోయల్ అసలు కారణాన్ని వివరించారు. గడిచిన రెండేళ్లలో బ్లింకిట్ అంబులెన్స్ సేవలు దాదాపు 42వేల కేసులను హ్యాండిల్ చేయగా.. అందులో దాదాపు 20వేల కేసులు అత్యవసరమైనవే. మిగిలినవి సాధారణ రొటీన్ ఆసుపత్రి సందర్శనలు, చెకప్‌లని ఆయన వెల్లడించారు. ఫ్రీ అంబులెన్స్ సేవలు అందుబాటులో ఉండటంతో సాధారణ ప్రైవేట్ క్యాబ్‌లలో వెళ్లాల్సిన చిన్నపాటి పనులకు కూడా అంబులెన్స్‌లను బుక్ చేసుకునే వారి సంఖ్య విపరీతంగా పెరిగిపోయిందని పేర్కొన్నారు.
ఇలాంటి రొటీన్ బుకింగ్స్ కారణంగా అత్యవసర సమయంలో ప్రాణాపాయ స్థితిలో ఉన్న రోగులకు అంబులెన్సులు అందుబాటులో లేకుండా పోతున్నాయని గోయల్ ఆందోళన వ్యక్తం చేశారు. ఎమర్జెన్సీ కోసం అవసరమైన పూర్తి పరికరాలతో కూడిన అంబులెన్సులు, పారామెడికల్ సిబ్బంది సాధారణ పనుల నిమిత్తం బిజీగా ఉండటం వల్ల అత్యవసర సేవలకు తీవ్ర అంతరాయం కలుగుతోందని అన్నారు. ఈ సమస్యకు చెక్ పెట్టేందుకే నాన్-ఎమర్జెన్సీ ట్రిప్పులకు ఫీజు విధానాన్ని తెచ్చినట్లు పేర్కొన్నారు.
I started Zomato with a spirit of service. Blinkit Ambulance is what that spirit of service looks like today. In the last 2 years, we have served ~20,000 emergency cases (~42,000 cases in total). We haven't charged a single rupee for any of them. And we want to keep it that way. With everything free, a growing share of bookings are for routine checkups, hospital visits and hospital-to-home transfers, trips that an Uber or private transport could have handled just as easily. Every such booking keeps a fully equipped emergency ambulance with paramedics off the road when someone's life may depend on it. So we are making a change from now onwards: Emergency transfers – free, as always. Non-emergency transfers – ₹2,500, charged after the trip. Broadly in line with what private ambulances charge. This money goes to Eternal Foundation, which runs these ambulances and will help us scale them even further. We hope that this charge will dramatically drop the usage of our Ambulances for non-emergency cases. 10-minute ambulances have saved and can save thousands of lives, and we need to keep them available for emergencies that need them the most. One more thing. Scaling high quality ambulances is hard. The biggest bottleneck is trained, empathic paramedics. Our training academy is scaling as fast as we can without compromising on quality, and @albinder and team are committed to bringing Blinkit Ambulance to all major cities in India in the next 2-4 years. అయితే ప్రజలు ఆందోళన చెందాల్సిన అవసరం లేదని, ఎమర్జెన్సీ సేవలు మాత్రం ముందులాగే పూర్తిగా ఉచితంగానే కొనసాగుతాయని స్పష్టం చేశారు. కేవలం సాధారణ తనిఖీలు, ఇంటికి వెళ్లే రొటీన్ ప్రయాణాలకు మాత్రమే కొత్తగా తీసుకొచ్చిన రూ.2వేల 500 ఫీజు వర్తిస్తుందని క్లారిటీ ఇచ్చారు. ఈ వసూలైన మొత్తం నేరుగా 'ఎటర్నల్ ఫౌండేషన్' ట్రస్ట్‌కు వెళ్తుందని తెలిపారు. ఈ నిధులను అంబులెన్స్ సేవల విస్తరణకు, పారామెడికల్ సిబ్బంది శిక్షణకు ఉపయోగిస్తామని వివరించారు.
రాబోయే రెండు నుంచి నాలుగేళ్లలో దేశంలోని ప్రధాన నగరాలన్నింటికీ ఈ 10 నిమిషాల అంబులెన్స్ సేవలను విస్తరించాలని బ్లింకిట్ లక్ష్యంగా పెట్టుకుంది. వ్యాపారం చేయడం కంటే.. అత్యవసరమైన ప్రాణాలను కాపాడే వాహనాలు రోగులకు ఎప్పుడూ అందుబాటులో ఉండాలనే సదుద్దేశంతోనే కొత్త మార్పులు చేసినట్లు దీపేందర్ గోయల్ తేల్చిచెప్పారు.
